PAY STATIONS REPLACE METERS IN VILLAGE

TRIPLE WHAMMY. New pay stations replace meters, paid parking hours have been extended, and rates have doubled.

Larchmont shoppers received a triple whammy Nov. 19 when they discovered the meters on Larchmont Blvd. between First and Beverly Blvd. were not accepting money.

First surprise: instead of using meters, shoppers are now required to use pay stations;
Second: the parking hours have been extended and Sundays have been added; Third: the rates have doubled.

Pay stations are located every several parking spaces. A customer inputs the number of his parking space, drops in coins or swipes a credit card, and pushes “OK.”

The hours when people are required to pay have increased. For the first time, Sunday customers must pay to park from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Monday to Thursday hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Friday and Saturday, the hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The new hours and pay increase (from 50 cents to $1 an hour) were approved by a vote of the City Council recently, and also apply to some streets in Hollywood and the Miracle Mile.

Councilman Tom LaBonge said the city has not raised its street parking fees in 20 years. For those commuting by bicycle, new racks will be installed, he added.
