This year for Valentine's Day my wife Alexandra and I opted out of the usual Campanile ($85 prix fix per person) and Ivy routine in favor of Papa Christos' "My Big Fat Greek Family Style Dinner" for $18.95 per person.

We started with wine tasting (all Greek imported) and continued with a wonderful feast including five appetizers—spanakopita, two types of olives, feta cheese, taramasalta with pita bread, and dolmas.

Two entrees—lamb chops and grilled chicken plus green beans, roasted potatoes, a classic Greek salad, bottled water, freshly baked bread, Greek coffee; delicious home-made baklava for dessert—all presented in a warm, festive atmosphere.

And if that weren't enough, a very talented belly dancer entertained.

I am not a professional restaurant reviewer, but over the years I have gained the reputation of being a "food nut" whose restaurant advice is sought out by friends and colleagues.

I highly recommend the Thursday night Greek experience at Papa Christos for its good, unpretentious food and cheerful, efficient service. You don't have to wait until next Valentine's Day.

Papa Christos has been in business at the same location since 1948 starting as an authentic Greek gourmet shop/deli.
