CUPID’S ARROW struck the Campens at baggage claim.
Angelique Campen met her future husband in the most unlikely of places—at baggage claim at LAX.
"I was coming home to L.A. from a medical conference in Boston and had a connection in Phoenix. The gate area was very crowded, so I was sitting on the floor,” she recalls. Meanwhile, Chase Campen, who was returning from a family gathering in New Mexico, got off his plane at the same gate. “I had a layover in Phoenix, but the cool part is that I wasn’t even supposed to get off the plane, which was continuing onto L.A. So I had to wait and re-board with everyone else.”
He noticed Angelique sitting on the floor across the room—in particular, her curly, black hair—and thought to himself, “she’s cute.”
“So I’m standing at baggage claim in L.A.,” continues Angelique, “
when he comes up to me and says ‘didn’t I see you sitting on the floor in Phoenix.’”
“My usual pick-up line,” interjects Chase.
The pair talked for a few minutes before Chase decided to simply give her his business card instead of asking for her number.Angelique says she didn’t offer any information. “I was really tired and the last thing I wanted to do was talk to some guy.”
But a week or so later, she came upon his card while cleaning out her purse. “I thought to myself he was such a cute, sweet guy, so I e-mailed him.”
The two met for dinner, and, according to Chase, it was love at first sight. “We’ve been together ever since. ”The Campens and their three children live in Windsor Square.

GLOBAL COURTSHIP united this couple.
What could be more romantic than a vacation in Tuscany? Especially when you meet your husband-to-be there. That’s what happened to Dennee Frey Marson of Windsor Village several years ago.
She had gone to Italy on an art tour as a way to get over the death of her husband. Her plans were to visit the Amalfi Coast over the Easter weekend, but she couldn’t get accommodations so the guide suggested she stay in Val d’Orcia in Tuscany at the L’Olmo Inn near Pienza.
The inn’s manager was Ubaldo Marson, and the two became friends. During a trip to Europe the following year, Dennee and Ubaldo had a reunion in Florence. Meeting Ubaldo as a bereaved widow “helped heal my heart,” she said.
Two years of phone calls and several months-long stays in either Los Angeles or Pienza followed. The pair was married in May 2007 and are living in Windsor Village.

TWO DIFFERENT kinds of cool: Katie and Paul Trevino
Back in 1983, Katie Trevino was a sophomore at the University of Michigan. “I was at a party at my friend Jim’s, and he told me his best friend Paul was coming in from Chicago.”
Katie recalls hearing that Paul was the coolest guy ever. “So he walks in with a friend, and I just remember looking at these city boys in their black Burberry trench coats, smoking Marlborough Reds, and they seemed so dark and edgy and sophisticated. Paul was just so not the typical boy I’d go for,” says the small-town girl and former cheerleader.
“But I was pretty cool, too, in my own bubbly Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority girl way,” Katie allowed. “I had on a full-length pale pink coat, frosted lipstick, enormous hair,” she recalled with a laugh. I figured he’d never even look at me… he was just way, way too cool.”
Katie and Paul ended up talking all night, and discovered they were both Leos. The couple, who live in Windsor Square, have been together ever since.
“Three kids later, and we’re still going strong,” said Katie.

COUPLE MET at UCLA Medical Center.
Susan Grossman met her husband-to-be while a student at UCLA in 1971. Kim was working in the computer department at UCLA Medical Center, and Susan had a part time job there.
Kim was a Beverly Hills native, and Susan claimed Canoga Park as her hometown. They were married in 1978 in the gardens of his parents’ home.
Susan started working fulltime at the medical center several years later, and Kim went on to work at insurance and bank computer centers.
Now living in Hancock Park with their three cats, the pair are avid music aficionados—attending concerts and the opera.
